A Bushido Campaign by David Holden
Introduction
The Sword is a campaign adventure for the Bushido role-playing game, published by Fantasy Games Unlimited in 1981 (second edition). From the same writer as The Stone and The Wood, this campaign begins on the northern island of Hokkaido in the late 15th century, 9 years after the events of The Wood Series 2 conclude.
Follow the adventures of the Children of The Wood (Yoshi Yeesu, Emishi, Ishan Ashte, Sahpo, Tomtare and Onuma) as they grow up faster than anyone ever expected!
Campaign Summary
Episode 1. Divide Wind. The characters of The Wood return to Ezo for the first time in nearly 10 years, but their children get separated from them in a storm.
Episode 2. Local Trouble. The shipwrecked children are set upon by local ruffians; a local lord comes to their aid, but in the end they save him.
Episode 3. The Rest of the Gang. Hidasue asks for help rounding up the rest of the gang.
Sideline I. Overheard in a Salmarsh. The adventurers overhear a strange conversation in a salt marsh.
Sideline II. Rough Justice. The deputy peace-keepers go to arrest a tax-dodger.
Sideline III. Lights in the Night. A cry for help is answered.
Sideline IV. No Groom at the Inn. The deputy peace-keepers try to keep the peace at a stag party.
Sideline IIIa. It’s in the Reeds, it’s Coming! The young castaways must face their fears.
Sideline IVa. Standing In (deep doodoo). Hidasue has the stand in for the Oga magistrate. Then the adventurers have to stand in for him.
Sideline V. Chinese Takeaway (with Spicy Spare Ribs). The deputy peace-keepers try to keep the peace at a festival.
Episode 4. Harbour Patrol. Hidasue is promoted to toll collector in Akita Harbour, and he asks his deputies to help.
Episode 5. Pirates of the Oga Bay. Hidasue's men fight pirates in Oga Bay.
Episode 6. Creatures from the Brackish Lagoon. The fight continues to eliminate the pirates in Lake Hachiro.
Interlude A. Legend of Three Lakes. A dragon fights a rival for his love.
Episode 7. Petition. Hidasue petitions the Daimyo for return of the Andō estate from the Nanbu clan.
Episode 8. Death and Taxes. Hidasue has to collect taxes from the villages of the Shimokita peninsula.
Interlude B. Pilgrimage. Hidasue wants to make a pilgrimage from Osore-zan to Hotokegaura.
Sideline VI. Hana and Her Sisters. A tail of love and deception.
Episode 9. Carpet Tax. A minor lord in northern Mutsu is investigated about his tax collection.
Interlude C. Nine Gates. Hidasue's boss wants him to find the secret of the Legend of Nine Gates.
Interlude D. Cave Pearls. The heroes find a ji-zamurai with unusual pearls, a robbed peasant and explore a fantastic cave.
Sideline VII. Kitsune Wedding. Emishi marries Hana, but there is the smell of fox in the air.
Episode 10. Panicker Tax. The heroes have to guard the transport of the region's taxes to the province boundary.
Sideline VIII. Grudges to Bear. The heroes run into an unexpected enemy in a snowy mountain pass.
Episode 11. Outsider Inside. Hidasue is brought in as jito of Shimotsuke to deal with rising banditry.
Interlude E. Bandits Abroad. The heroes are attacked by bandits even before they reach the capital.
Interlude F. The Hunt. Hidasue and his charges join the daimyo for a hunt.
Episode 12. Negotiation. Peasant unrest must be soothed our heroes.
Interlude G. The Water Margin. The theft of horses from the marshes is attributed to kappa.
Episode 13. Repression. Peasant unrest needs a firmer hand.
Interlude H. Bandits Rising. A dead body leads to the horse bandit gang.
Episode 14. Uprising. Encouraged by news from Kaga province, the peasants rise up and must be quelled.
Interlude I. Intell Inside. The troubleshooters are asked to spy on political manouverings in a neighbouring province.
Episode 15. Kozuke Journeyman. The Shugo of Kozuke has just the problem that Hidasue's reputation says he can solve.
Episode 16. Shinano Knights. There is no end of tasks for the troubleshooters in repressed Shinano Province. But Hidasue gets an offer he just has to refuse.
