The Stone - Series 3

A Bushido Campaign by David Holden

Introduction

The Stone is a long campaign adventure for the Bushido role-playing game, published by Fantasy Games Unlimited in 1981 (second edition) and now back in print. Series 3 of this campaign continues from where the second series left off, just after the successful revolution that deposed the Daimyo and put Lord Chozo into Matsuyama Castle. There is much to sort out, lawlessness is increasing, and Mariko has married the Daimyo of Awaji province.

Campaign Summary

The first section concerns adventures in Matsuyama in the immediate aftermath of the revolution.

Episode 1. Peace. Series 3 is introduced and the scene set for the action that all takes place in interludes.

Interlude A. The Stooge. The best Bushi has been given the School of the Blade.

Interlude B. Trouble at t' Mill. The leading Bushi has been given Masaki village as a reward, but peasants have high expectations.

Interlude C. The Sorcerer's Apprentice. The shugenja is training young students.

Interlude D. Happy Ninja Families. The secret ninja needs to get some young blood in the clan.

Interlude E. The Hiring Fair. Two new players are introduced through a Hiring Fair as in Series 1.

Episode 2. I-Spy. A spy is suspected in the castle - a search and chase follows.

Episode 3. An Inspector Calls. The disappearance of a court scribe leads to a police investigation, traitors, corruption etc.

Episode 4. Crime and Punishment. Yakuza trouble flares up to culminate in retribution for the elimination of the Serpents.

Sideline XV. The Drowned Woman. A boat journey results in a ghostly encounter.

Sideline XI. The Missing Map. During Mariko's stay at home, a valuable map goes missing in mysterious circumstances.

Sideline XII. The Missing Convoy. Trade convoys across the mountains to Nakamura have been disappearing.

Sideline XVII. The Hajo and the Man-Crow. One of the party tries out a new weapon and meets a mythical creature.

Sideline XIII. The Missing Money. While protecting a convoy, the troubleshooters are accused of theft and murder.

Episode 5. Travel to Hyuga. Encounters while travelling.

Interlude G. The Enchanted Island. A mysterious, uncharted island appears, inviting further investigation.

Interlude H. The Pirates of Penang. Encounter with infamous pirates on the Inland Sea.

Episode 6. Sobo-Zan Pass. Sealing off Northern Hyuga, a number of adventures are had.

Interlude J(1). The Marriage-Broker. Kimori sees the Marriage Broker.

Sideline XIV. The Green Horse. A strange apparition has been frightening the ashigaru - a green horse.

Episode 7. The Stone (Part 1). A daring raid into Hyuga to rescue an Osumi spy reaches the prison called The Stone.

Episode 8. The Stone (Part 2). A spy is being pursued and needs rescuing.

Episode 9. The Rescue Squad. On the spy's report, a plan is revealed to set up an escape route for some important prisoners.

Sideline X. The Oxidised Grotto. There is a story of a cave where the walls, animals and plants are totally white...

Sideline XVIII. A Few More Missing Convoys. Treasure-fest!

Episode 10. Upward Nobility. A plan is formed to get a spy into the high ranks of the Hyugan army.

Sideline XVI. Tomb of the Ji-Zamurai. A killer stalks a land-owner's staff.

Interlude J(2). The Wedding. Kimori gets his girl.

Sideline VII. The Temple of the Silent Monks. Something is dismembering villagers and temple gravediggers.

Sideline XXI. Mission Impossible? The party's secret ninja is lost on a mission - the others must follow and succeed where he failed.

Episode 11. The War. The heroes plan a battle campaign against Hyuga, with Osumi, Iyo and Satsuma allied.
