Emishi has grown up as the eldest surviving son of a great leader - or at least someone who thinks he is a great leader. Miyoshi has tried to inculcate into Emishi the belief that it is Emishi's duty to lead, and everyone else's duty to follow him.

Emishi has been indoctrinated with the idea that in order to survive and prosper, the Ainu must have a standing army - led by Miyoshi at first and later by Emishi of course - and resist the Wajin expansionism.

Growing up, Emishi has spent plenty of time studying tactics and training with Ainu and Wajin weapons. It has been a very strict upbringing, but (at least in Miyoshi's opinion) a fair one.
