Sahpo was born in the early stages of the great wandering of the tribe. As the second youngest child of a large family, and only boy, he learned early to keep things to himself. Never particularly strong, he took his father's advice to heart - "Use your mind to think your way round problems and don't be afraid to let others do the work that you are not suited to". He has not fully inherited his father's deviousness, the open nature of Ainu society tended to be a counter influence, he still knows that he needs to work within his limits most of the time (another piece of advice from Father was "Don't be afraid to push your magical powers when needed"). He knows he needs more rough and ready companions to keep the monsters off of him whilst he delivers the knock out spell. He also is not averse to getting the hell out of danger when necessary.

Sahpo is content with Ainu society (even though he proudly bears his father's clan name as well as a Wajin name), though also proud to have been chosen to inherit his father's profession while his sisters became shamans and priests in the tribe. The tribulations of constant migration have given him a calm demeanor, not given to emotional outbursts but calm calculation. Even so he is eager to emulate his father's exploits and become a hero and leader of the tribe. He has certainly sought to learn the arts of persuasion and inspired leadership. He sees his role as offering sage advice to his more hot-headed compatriots, especially since he has much greater knowledge of the history and folklore of the tribe. His pride is subtle, though not so hidden as to mean he will not turn to his companions the eyes of Rivna - "The face which says: I told you so" - if they run into difficulties for not following his advice.

In short, Sahpo is the annoying, bookish one who everyone ignores most of the time, even though he is right. (He will probably get reincarnated as Hermione in about half a millenium!).
