The Wood - Series 2
A Bushido Campaign by David Holden
Introduction
The Wood 2 is a campaign adventure for the Bushido role-playing game, published by Fantasy Games Unlimited in 1981 (second edition) and now back in print. From the same writer as The Stone, this campaign takes place on the northern island of Hokkaido in the mid-15th century, 180 years before The Stone.
Follow the adventures of Takeda Miyoshi, Komparu Mineo, Kitatsuda Yoshinari, Miura Kachamaru and Murata Hakuseki and their new companion Kokuma as they learn to live with the Ainu in the frontier lands of Ezo.
Campaign Summary
Episode 1. Trading Places. Times are hard for the Ainu at the southernmost edge of their range. A regular visit to a Wajin village to trade furs for iron ore is rebuffed.
Sideline. Wood, Rock and Water.
Sideline. Oni, the Good Die Young.
Episode 2. Raiding Parties. Wajin from Hakodate attack villages, first in small numbers then in large.
Episode 3. Anyone in on the Bay? Our heroes cross the bay to find new land, but find hostile Wajin in Muroran and Ainu along the coast.
Episode 4. All Roll Over. Koshamain sends the heroes to Yakumo to plead for land; the headman requires a task performing.
Episode 5. Hunting Stories. Tracking wild boar, the heroes come across tracks of a GIANT boar.
Episode 6. Eight Spiders. Yakumo is perennially attacked by eight spiders; can our heroes help to end this cycle?
Episode 7. Hunting Accident. A hunt is continually interrupted by other Ainu hunting parties. Then our heroes interrupt another party...
Episode 8. Raiding Parties Part 2. The Wajin from Hakodate come again. Koshamain is asked to leave.
Episode 9. Land Grab. Koshamain leads the tribe into the mountians seeking a place to live, but it isn't easy until they find Kumaishi.
Episode 10. Bear Rock. A huge bear lives under the fallen rock that blocks the valley. Our heroes must kill the male.
Episode 11. Bear Flesh. The heroes must kill the female bear and capture the cub.
Episode 12. Meet the Neighbours. A scouting mission is sent to explore the Wajin town of Kumaishi.
Sideline. Demon'spit. The heroes observe a demonic procession and fight them, only to find that some of them have become invisible.
Sideline. Grinning Cat. Some of our heroes are lured into a trap.
Sideline. Touched in the Head. Mineo is lost in the cave, presumed killed by the bear. He turns up many month later with a fantastic tale to tell.
Episode 13. Bear Truth. The bear cub grows up, but escapes and attacks villagers.
Episode 14. Slaving Away. The PCs find a home in Taisei, but must work like slaves for the headman. Koshamain is ill and forbids the PCs to complain.
Sideline. Sacrifice. News of a lost village prompts the heroes to investigate.
Episode 15. A Binge Too Far. The headman binges on village food, making everyone suffer more. The PCs (at Koshamains insistance if necessary) overthrow him. But surprisingly, the villagers are not pleased and make them leave.
Episode 16. Sailing to Shangri-La.
Sideline XX. Cannibal Island. An island is inhabited by cannibals.
Sideline XIX. The Snake and the Centipede. The heroes help a snake god fight a centipede god for possession of an island.
Episode 17. Divide Wind. The heroes go on a quest back to the mainland to save Koshamain's health, accompanied by their children.
