He returned to the hidden village to find an army of Samurai picking through its still-burning remains; any other survivors of the Original Grey Panthers must have scattered, and although he has never found another Grey Panther he still hopes of one day finding them. |
| Stopping only to pick up some money and equipment from a supply cache, and believing the clan betrayed he fled into the night until he reached the coast where he bought passage on a smuggling vessel bound for Imabari. His meagre funds were nearly exhausted when he heard that a certain Lord Chozo was holding a hiring fair, and suddenly the promise of a warm meal and a place to hide while gaining some free training and creating a persona for himself sounded too good to refuse. A little while later after 'acquiring' some armour from a young Bushi who wouldn't need it any more, Sugiyama set off for Masaki. | |
| Posing as an itinerant Ronin, he was accepted as part of the team; even now his colleagues know nothing of his true vocation (they say things like "Isn't it wonderful that you know that ninja technique such and such!"). Lord Chozo however somehow got wind of his profession and ordered him to form a 'Tactical Unit' for 'low-profile' assignments. Thus from the ramshackle, disorganised remnants of the local Ninja were the Grey Panthers of Kure reborn. He sometimes feels that it is time to move on, to find other survivors like himself but here he has found new friends, a new home and, as Jonin (Head-Ninja), new responsibilities to those who look to him in their hour of need. |
