| Background: | Emiko was born in Tarumizu in Osumi Province in 1620. Her father was a Samurai in a local Daimyo's army. Her mother was a Shrine Maiden to the local Kami. From the about the age of 5, Emiko loved to help her mother at the shrine. She liked it so much that at the age of 8 she became a Miko (Shrine Maiden) herself. |
| KA serious outbreak of a fever took many in the village, including her father's Daimyo. Emiko's mother died after over exerting herself trying to save the Daimyo, when she was already exhausted after trying to exorcise the fever from so many. As the Daimyo had no heirs, her father became a Ronren and moved to Matsuyama, there he joined Lord Rufu's forces. Emiko came to, and so at the age of 11 she joined the Shizari Shrine in Matsuyama. There she studied and looked after her father's affairs for a further 4 years. Until her father died during an attack on a bandit stronghold. She now devoted her full attention to the temple, for another 3 years she worked hard and studied when she could. Until her, Guuzi (Chief Priest) decided to send her with a letter of thanks to the new Daimyo Lord Chozo, for his help in turning the fortunes of the Shrine around. (A shrewd political move considering Lord Chozo now ruled the both the town and Province.) In addition, her Guuzi ordered her to help Lord Chozo in any way she could. As luck would have it, Lord Chozo was going to hold another hiring fair. Therefore, Emiko entered. A good performance in religious debate, a safe draw in trance and an energetic display of bojutsu secured Emiko the post. | |
