Character Profile:
Sung
| Name: | Tai Sung |
| Age: | 20 |
| Birthplace: | Shenyang, Liaoning Province, North East China |
| Background: | Tai Sung was born in the city of Shenyang, Liaoning Province in the North East of China. His father was a well respected Han nobleman, and took great care of his family who lived on the outskirts of the city, employing people to manage their farmland. Sung himself looked likely to join the army at a young age, showing good prospects with both sword and bow. His younger brother was well educated and spent time helping to manage the household, and their younger sister looked to be well placed to marry the son of another local Han nobleman. |
| However all was not well with the world. Shenyang was a city in decline, and decreasing trade with the West, compounded by cold winters and poor harvests, brought unrest. Sung's childhood was dominated by the growing conflict between the Han and the ever-growing Manchu people. Sung joined the army and found himself involved in trying to keep order between the two warring factions. The Manchu exerted ever-growing pressure in the Ming dynasty and Beijing from the North East, and took over effective rule of Shenyang. Sung's family had their land confiscated, although they still managed to live well. | |
| Sung's father knew that it was becoming increasingly dangerous for Han soldiers in the province, working for a collapsing empire. He decided it best to send his son away to relative safety. He could return in five years after the unrest had settled, and help run the household. It would be good experience anyway for a young man to travel. He had heard of a Lord Chozo in Japan who was considered to be an honest leader, and was hiring soldiers. So Tai Sung left his family, and started on his travels. |
